STEPHENVILLE — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, Texas A&M Forest Service and Natural Resources Conservation Service will present a workshop for landowners recovering from recent wildfires from 1-5 p.m. May 18 at the AgriLife Extension Center, 1229 N. Highway 281.
Topics will include grass restoration, tree recovery, wildfire preparedness, landscape stabilization and cost-share programs.

United Supermarkets donates more than two tons of apples
United Supermarkets and Market Street on Wednesday donated 4,960 pounds of apples to the Food Bank of West Central Texas as part of the Take a Bite Out of Hunger Program.
The United Family is one of the original partners in the program, which was created by FirstFruits Marketing of Washington in 2010 to help provide food for the underserved.
The local donation was part of more than 50,000 pounds of apples donated by United Family stores in Texas and New Mexico over the course of the week.
Taylor County receives safety award
The Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool recently presented a 2021 Safety Achievement Award, the TAC said in a news release Wednesday.
The award recognizes the county’s “commitment to safety in the workplace, as well as for controlling the county’s workers’ compensation claims,” the release said.
To qualify for the award, counties must participate in the TAC RMP’s Workers’ Compensation Program and have a safety program or accident prevention plan, in addition to other criteria. A total of 17 counties receive the award this year.
Taylor County had previously received the TAC’s Excellence in Safety Award in 2018, 2019 and 2020, and in 2017 received the TAC Gold Star for Safety Award.
