How to Claim Car Insurance for Own Damage?

What Is an Own-Damage Car Insurance Claim?

You may file a claim for damage done to the insured car during an accident under your standalone damage cover or comprehensive car insurance plan. To start the own-damage car insurance claim procedure, you must notify the insurer and provide the required paperwork. *

  • After then, the insurance sent a surveyor to the accident scene to assess the damage.
  • You can make a claim for the costs of the damage or loss when the surveyor submits the report for approval.
  • Also, you have the option to select “cashless claim settlement” or “reimbursement claim settlement” here. *

Types of Claim Settlements

A comprehensive car insurance policy has two different claim-handling procedures:

  • Payment of Claims Without Cash

You can get your car fixed using this procedure at one of the network garages that your motor insurance provider has listed. Since the insurer directly pays the claim amount with the network garage with which your insured car is transported for repair, the entire process is cashless. According to the terms of the policy, the policyholder is only required to pay for the mandatory or optional deductibles. *

  • Settlement of a Reimbursement Claim

In this procedure, you take your car to a non-network shop for repairs and split the car insurance prices with the insurance company in order to receive reimbursement. To put it another way, you pay for the repairs at the shop of your choosing and then submit a claim to the insurer for reimbursement of the costs. The insurer guarantees to make the reimbursements to your bank account after assessing the damage and adjusting any applicable deductibles. *

How do I file a vehicle insurance own damage claim?

Follow these simple steps to file own-damage car insurance claims under your solo damage coverage or comprehensive car insurance. *

  • Inform your insurer

As quickly as possible after the accident, you must notify your insurance provider. The claim settlement process moves more quickly the earlier you notify. You must be aware that the coverage can only be invoked within the allotted number of days following the accident.

Beyond that time, any claim is not regarded as valid. To find out the specifics, you must either confirm it with your insurer or study the policy documentation.

  • Submit an FIR

As soon as possible, file a First Information Report (FIR) at the local police station. If you want to make a new car insurance claim, an accident report is essential. If at all feasible, report the accident as soon as possible after it occurs.

  • Assessment of Damages

The damage or loss appraisal is carried out by the surveyor assigned by the insurance company after you have filed an FIR and informed your insurer. Your insurance provider will settle claims for damages in accordance with the surveyor’s final report via reimbursement settlement or cashless settlement, as per your preference. In order to prevent more subsequent damage, it is also advised to never tow the car yourself. *

  • Claim Resolution

In case of a cashless claim settlement process, the repair expenses are settled with the network garage upon receipt of the surveyor’s final report. But, if you choose the reimbursement settlement claim process, claims are settled once you give your insurer repair amount receipts. *

You should be aware that while your insurance provider will contribute a necessary portion to the cost of repairing the car, you will still be responsible for paying a mandatory deductible. You can select any one of the two options offered by your insurer for the own-damage claim settlement process and enjoy the car insurance benefits. *
